Nanowrimo is a waste of time, there is no point in attempting to write a novel in a month. No one reads original fic on the net, or will read my original fic on the net. I am not a student anymore and writing a novel that no one will read is pointless.

Plot bunnies for any type of novel I might want to write, please be gone!

I kinda feel the same way. As for nobody reading original fiction on the internet, you are absolutely right. Trying to find readers is like pulling wisdom teeth without anesthetic.

I know, yes I know some people who write original fic, but I kind of find it a pointless effort. Honestly if I were to write fanfic it would at least get read and reviewed!

Well, they say the whole point is to get you writing and force you out of the fear of writing crap. But it does feel rather pointless to write something that will very likely have no audience. My flist this time of year is chock full of NaNoWriMo posts, and I just have to tune them out. :P

That is my other issue, if it is just "see how much you can write in a month," well people are going to end up writing crap, and even worse than that, crap that they aren't passionate about and that was just written so they could reach the 50,000 word count.

I see people doing Nanowrimo, and I'm tempted by it, and think that there might be something to have a lovely "I completed Nanowrimo" icon. However whatever I've written very likely isn't going to be worth anything, and the time spent writing a novel in a month can really be better spent on other things. Is that really worth it for just an icon? Maybe things would be different if they had some type of awards for the novels written in a month, or on the boards had some type of "you get a partner and have to read their novel and give intensive feedback," deal, but honestly that would defeat the "just write anything" attitude of the whole thing.

Also I wonder exactly what type of charity someone is supporting by joining it? I went to the website about where the money goes, and it still isn't quite clear what the "Young Writer's Program," does. Honestly it looks kind of like most of the donations you pay go to "staff salaries," and to keep the website up. Why wouldn't I be surprised to see them teaming up with some type of vanity press somewhere down the line?

If one is going to attempt to pen a novel, take time to write it, or let it write itself!

Just write 50,000 words of slashfic. People will read that. ;) Of course, do you want *those* people reading your stories? I don't know.

Lol, slashfic isn't my thing, not that there is anything wrong with it...

One could do fanfic, but I would feel kind of guilty telling people I'm writing the Great American Novel, and penning fanfic?
