After DVR'ing South Park, I watched the Final Ugly Betty last night, all good shows must come to an end, and in my humble opinion, Ugly Betty's time was up.

Actually enjoyed this finale much more than I thought I would, I love the idea of Betty moving on, although it was the second series finale this year where the characters moved off to England, Numbers did the same thing. We got a satisfying sense of closure for all of the characters, which was surprisingly in character. I will admit that I was a bit teary eyed towards the end, so the episode did successfully accomplish what it set out to do.

I'm glad that this show did not do an "overnight swan" type transformation on Betty, and gradually had her transition from "Ugly Betty," to "attractive Betty," but I do wonder if it would have worked if they started doing it a bit more obviously last season.

In terms of ships, was happy that they waited for the very end for any implication of Betty and Daniel becoming romantically involved. I am bit more open to it than I would have been had they attempted it last season, or in previous seasons.

During its four seasons, while I enjoyed seeing Betty develop as a character, the show seemed to jolt without warning between slapstick comedy, to over the top, depressing drama, to utterly implausible situations. For example, the whole Christina Pregnancy storyline was an absolute mess. First it goes from being a storyline about Christina's dying ex husband from Scotland returning, then we get over the top stealing sperm from the body of a dead multimillionaire, then 90s style surrogacy storyline. Wilhelmina Slater's ridiculous plots to take over the paper didn't belong on the same show where they were doing a storyline about a boy's father being shot during a robbery. This season the show almost found the correct balance between slapstick, comedy, drama, and over the top soapish antics, despite the Claire Meade's long lost son. However, if the show ere to go on I don't know if they would have been able to balance it. In addition, the premise of the show, watching Betty transform needed to finally be done with and over with. Ugly Betty is meant to be a Telenovela, not a Soap Opera Telenovelas have a limited life.

Another issue I had Betty developed, there were some moments that just seemed implausible, did she really need to give up her apartment to go and live with her family? I'm glad that at least in the final episode, both Hilda and Betty moved out. But did it really need to take Betty taking a job overseas, and Hilda getting married for that to happen?

I also always thought the line of men pining for Betty even before the transformation. In real life guys like Henry, Gio, and Matt wouldn't touch Betty with a ten foot pole. Yes, there was the fantasy aspect, but to me it didn't work because it was completely unrealistic!
