Lost would have been better had it been written Babylon 5 style, with the eventual fate of each character sealed in stone, the final scene penned. Maybe this would not have been possible first season, because it was a toss up as to how long the show was last. But, the second half of third season, when they were told exactly how many seasons and episodes they were getting the writers should have gotten to work on the rest of the series. Plot out each and every plot detail for the second part of season three, season four, season five, and season six. Done all to ensure that the necessary actors would be on board, and have back up characters penned for each of the major characters just in case of actor issues.
Makes me wonder if it would be possible to do some type of a "reboot," with Lost, except the entire series is pre-written, no making up characters like Jacob/UnLocke on the fly for the final season.
