Ana Lucia is an awful character, filled with angst and irksome moral ambiguity. It doesn't help that they wrote out someone we were just getting used to, Shannon, to make room for her. Seasoned TV writers should know that replacements rarely if ever work. In addition the idea of another group on the island is starting to push the boundaries of my suspension of disbelief. Maybe I would have liked her more if she had been one of the original castaways.
Part of the reason why Ana Lucia was brought on is because they seem to have messed up in many ways with Kate.
The role would have been better suited to an actress who could have done a better job with the toughness needed for the character. Evangeline Lilly isn't bad, but I just don't buy her as the unpredictable potential villain. Are we supposed to be afraid of Kate? I think someone like Alyson Hannigan, or Amy Acker would have done much better, have proven that they can go from innocent and unthreatening to outright psychotic and frightening.
