Will admit that during the show's second season, and at the start of this one, I was getting a bad feeling about the show. However these past two episodes have been some of the best television I have seen in a long time. This is probably because on this show, the line between which characters are good and which characters evil can be blurry. For instance, with Locke, is he the good guy, out for what he feels is best, for the rest of the folks on the island, or what is simply best for him? Did he blow up the submarine, because he didn't want to leave the island? Or because he feels that staying on the island is what is best for everyone? What was his motivation for having Sawyer kill the real Sawyer? Was it because he believes he himsef is not a killer and didn't have the guts to do it? Or because he can use the fact that "Sawyer is a murderer," as ammo at some point in the future?
While I had a gut feeling that Locke's father, would be the real Sawyer, that scene when Sawyer confronts him was gold. Very surprised Josh Holloway isn't getting more film roles, and didn't submit an emmy reel tape for best supporting actor. It was nice seeing Sawyer getting his balls back and in naughty mode, something we had not seen for awhile.
The one one character, on this show who, is clearly evil, Ben, is an excellently drawn out, chilling villain. He is much more complex than standard comic book stock. We know part of what motivates him, his alienation from his father, and the loss of his mother at a very early age. However, he is still unpredictable, and not the good person, I was expecting him to be. Also helps that we don't have to resort to online media to know most of his backstory and what motivates him.
Have mixed feelings about the fact that the show is getting two more seasons, and that we will be getting two extra long hiatuses. While I'm glad that the writers have a definite end date, which will hopefully help them with a master plan for the show, I just hope that a nine month break doesn't hurt things too badly.
